In this case you don’t need to perform the other steps. That’s why we recommend you to perform the provided steps in the order shown. Before you go on-to the solution steps, here are some important points that need to be remembered:

  • Create a backup of your company file before any import. This will keep your current data secure.
  • Make sure that you are using a QuickBooks and Internet Explorer version that supports the web connect files.
  • If the right bank account couldn’t be found in the drop-down list then you can go to the Deactivate Bank Feeds for an account section to sort the inactive accounts.
  • As a basic solution step, you can go to Register(Classic) mode perform the same action.
    • From the main menu, go to Edit > Preferences
    • Now, select Checking and navigate to the Company Preferences tab
    • From the Bank Feeds section, click on Classic Mode button
    • Click on OK

Solution 1: Download directly from the banks website (outside of QuickBooks)

  • Open the internet browser and go to your bank’s website
  • Download and Save the .QBO file to your Desktop.
  • Open QuickBooks and from the main menu, select:
    • File > Utilities > Import > Webconnect files
    • Browse to the file location, select the file and click on Open.
    • Follow the import wizard to complete the import.

Solution 2: Duplicate the issue in a new test file

  • Go to the File menu and select New Company.
  • Select Express Start
  • From the newly created test company, add your bank account to the Chart of Accounts
  • Set up the account for Bank Feeds.
  • Download or import the .qbo file.

If the import is successful in a new test file: the error is occurring in the original file.

  • If you have successfully imported transactions in the past from the same bank account in which your facing issue right now:
    • Reset the account that is having problem in QuickBooks by disabling the online connection.
    • Re-create the connection with the bank by importing the webconnect file.
    • Resolve data damage on your company file

If the import is fails in a new test file: the error is occurring in the .QBO file formatting

  • Contact your financial institution to report the issue
  • Now go to the Solution 3 to check the .QBO file to identify the issues.

Solution 3: Review the web connect (.qbo) download for obvious errors

  • Download the .qbo file in your system
  • Right click on the downloaded file and open the file with Notepad
  • Check the download for basic errors
    • Remove all the invalid characters such as ampersands
