You might be receiving some errors when you enter your validation code or license number and product number during the process of activating or installing the QuickBooks software. You may receive the following error messages:

Solution 1: Verify That The System Date And Time Settings Are Correct
- Close QuickBooks Desktop and all its related processes.
- Right-click on the bottom right corner of your screen and click on Adjust Date/Time
- Go to the Date & Time tab and then set the date correct time and date.
- Click on Apply and then OK.
- Open QuickBooks and then go to Help > Activate QuickBooks > Begin Activation. (For Canadian version of QuickBooks, go to Help > Register QuickBooks > Begin Registration).

Solution 3: Reactivate MSXML
- 64-bit operating system, activate MSXML with the following commands:
- Run your system with administrator rights.
- Open the C: drive and go to the folder path cd\windows\syswow64.
- Type regsvr32 MSXML4.dll and then hit Enter.
- Type regsvr32 MSXML6.dll and then hit Enter.
- 32-bit operating systems: register MSXML with the following commands:
- Press Windows + R keys to open the run command
- Type cmd in the search area and then hit Enter.
- Type regsvr32 MSXML4.dll and then hit Enter.
- Type regsvr32 MSXML6.dll and then hit Enter.
Solution 4: Run the QBInstall Tool
Install and run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool to resolve the install related software.
Solution 5: Create a new Windows Admin
Windows 10
- Go to the system Settings
- Click on Accounts and then choose Family & other users.
- Click on Add someone else to this PC from the Other Users
- Click on I don’t have this person’s sign-in information from the bottom of the page
- Click on Add a user without a Microsoft account.
- Provide a name to the new account.
Note: We recommend you to assign a strong password for this account to make sure that your user is secure.
- Click on Finish.
- The newly created account will be set as a Standard Account. You need to select the newly created account and then click on Account Type.
- From the drop-down menu, click on Administrator and then select OK.
- Once the new user is creates, log off from the current user and sign in to the new user using the appropriate password.—
- Open QuickBooks Desktop register again by going into Help > Activate QuickBooks > Begin Activation. (For Canadian version of QuickBooks, Help > Register QuickBooks > Begin Registration).
If the error gets resolved by this then you can decide whether you want to continue using QuickBooks in the newly created user or you want you use it in the previous user.
Windows 8
- Open the Windows Explorer by pressing the Windows + E keys
- Open the Control Panel.
- Go to the User Accounts and then Manage another account.
- Click on Add a new user in PC settings from the Manager Accounts window.
- Provide the new user name and other important details and then click on Next
- Select Administrator for the account type and then click on Finish.
- Once you create the new user, sign out from the current one and sign in to the new user account.
- Open QuickBooks Desktop and try to register by going into Help > Activate QuickBooks > Begin Activation. (For Canadian version of QuickBooks, Help > Register QuickBooks > Begin Registration).
If the error gets resolved by this then you can decide whether you want to continue using QuickBooks in the newly created user or you want you use it in the previous user.
Windows 7
- Open the control panel and go to the User Accounts section
- Click on the Manage User Accounts.
- Click on Add from the Manage Account window.
- Provide the new user name and other important details and then click on Next
- Follow the same steps as shown for the Windows 8 users

Solution 6: Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop
Most of the errors and issues in QuickBooks software have one common solution and that is Reinstalling the QuickBooks software. You need to follow the below-mentioned steps in case if the wrong product version shows while installing from a download:
- Close the QuickBooks installation window
- Look for a blue & gray icon for the QuickBooks installer on the desktop double-tap on the icon to begin the installation.
- Click on Yes to All when you are asked to overwrite the existing files. Note: If the files doesn’t get extracted properly then a wrong installer may get launched.
Solution 7: Close All Versions Of QuickBooks
- Open the Task Manager by pressing the CTRL + ALT + DEL keys
- Go to the Processes
- Sort the processes alphabetically by clicking on Image Name.
- End the processes mentioned below:
- QBW32.EXE
- qbupdate.exe
- QBWebconnector.exe
- QuickBooksMessaging.exe
- QBDBMGR.exe
- Any remaining process that starts with QB
- Close the Task Manager.
- Install QuickBooks and restart QuickBooks.
